The project De Waalse Krook is one of the most important innovative projects in the heart of Ghent. The site in-between the Walpoortstraat, the Ketelvaart, the Nederschelde, the Lammerstraat and the beginning of the Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat will be completely modernized and redeveloped and will be given a new meaning. Two buildings are essential in the project: the former Wintercircus (Circus Mahy) and the new center of knowledge and culture including the new Library of the Future and the New Media Centre.

The former UCO site in the North of Ghent undergoes a sustainable redevelopment into a socio-economic business. A functional business area with a park is the main objective of the City Government Ghent. In the middle of the 50.000 m² main house, a new street (the UCO-street) will be constructed. It connects the residential areas in the neighborhood with the renovated warehouse.

The project, located in the harbour area of Ghent, includes the expansion and renovation of the existing offices of the construction firm Denys and the redevelopment of the surrounding areas.

Sustainability is at the heart of the design. The new offices are provided with a physical performant building envelope and energy efficient technical installations. Controllable external blinds and low consuming lighting fixtures are fitted to reduce the risk of superheating in the summer by avoiding internal heat and solar gains.

The Centre for Fine Arts (Bozar), Brussels

The Centre of Fine Arts in Brussels is not only an architectural masterpiece by Victor Horta, it is also an art house that bubbles over with international cultural and artistic activities.

Following an intensive renovation and restoration period, the Centre re-opened its original spaces with a network of exhibition halls, theaters, the ‘Henry Le Bœuf’ hall and a concert hall with 2200 seats, where new multimedia rooms were added.

Municipal Library, Genk

The architectural concept of the new Municipal Library of Genk was developed by A-RES in collaboration with VASCONI Associés Architectes from Paris.

The shell structure consists almost entirely of fair-faced concrete. For the glazed wall at the main entrance, the designers opted for a non-every-day structure of straight and curved suspended glazing, provided with solar protection by aluminum fins.

The design of the new NATO headquarters was chosen through an International Architectural Design Competition under the supervision of the UIA in Paris.

The new headquarters comprise a large conference center surrounded by a number of office buildings. The common and technical infrastructure include the services of the information and the press, restaurants, cafeterias, shops and a center for the staff with a large variety of modern equipments for sports and leisure.

The Connector building provides a pleasant and memorable “Passenger Experience”and unifies Brussels Airport into a cohesive whole by striking landmark architecture. The roof and envelope create the strong architectural statement of the Connector Building and is comprised of a repeating bay along its length with rationalised geometry fabricated with standardised components. The structural design principles for the Connector Building are based on a sustainable approach formed with consideration to site constraints, constructability and operational flexibility.

Extension HQ-Ingenhoven

Extension European Investment Bank, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

A-RES assisted the European Investment Bank in the selection of a Project Management Team, responsible for the supervision of the implementation of EBI HQ-Extension project, which was won by architect Christoph Ingenhoven (Germany).

The building, located at the Kirchberg in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, has a 13,000 square-metre glass roof and provides 72,500 square metres of office space and other facilities for up to 750 employees. The tubular glass roof spans the entire, 170-metre long and 50-metre wide structure. In combination with an extremely lightweight glass and steel superstructure, it offers a maximum of daylight and transparency.

New water purification station (AQUIRIS), Brussels-North

A-RES was responsible for the design of a large part of the new water purification station in Brussels-North for Aquiris.

The project included the construction of a new plant lf for the depollution/treatment of waste water for a population of 1.100.000 inhabitant-equivalents, the construction of a 6.5 km sewage collector along the left bank of the Willebroek Canal and the connection of the plant with the existing sewage network. Given the industrial character of the zone, a contemporary approach was adopted The architectural entity that was created is entirely enclosed and appears as a compact set of industrial buildings.
